The Merletto Glass Vase Set includes three pieces that are mouthblown and machine-cut during a labor-intensive process that has a number of steps to it. First the clear glass shapes are set, then dipped into the soft pastel blush glass that coats their exteriors. The colored glass is then ground away to reveal strips of the clear glass beneath. Finally, the checkerboard pattern is achieved when the vases are flipped in different angles as they are held to the grinding wheel.
